Why Should You Explore the Arizona Painted Desert?
Northern Arizona is the setting for the Painted Desert, It's natural and rugged beauty has to be seen by the eyes of the beholder to be truly experienced.
El Desierto Pintado as the spanish named it, is a vast area of badlands that stretches from Grand Canyon National Park all the way to and including Petrified Forest National Park.
Here you will be able to marvel from many vantage points at petrified trees (wood that has turned to stone) encrusted with colourful quartz jewels, mother nature truly at her beautiful best.
These wonderful badlands can also be experienced behind the steering wheel of a car, there are many scenic routes that can be driven at a nice gentle pace, just make sure you have a camera this is a photographer's paradise.
You will also have the opportunity to learn about the local natives, there are two large Indian settlements in the Painted Desert where you can learn the culture, Pottery making and jewelcrafting skills of the Hopi and Navajo people.
The northern regions are decorated by a scattering of Hopi mesas and buttes, here you can take a walk into the badlands and feel the experience first hand (some areas require permits) who knows you may even find a dinosaur fossil.
The most visited area though, is the Petrified Forest and my site will help you to understand how these beautiful crystal jewels were formed in the Petrified logs, so the next time your wife or daughter wears her Amethyst necklace or ring, you will think of your experiences in Arizona.
Many many good reasons to visit these badlands, although I can't think of why they are called bad, they are good, please enjoy these goodlands and have a vacation to remember.
