A Little About Me and Painted Desert Jewels
On this page of my site I would like to tell you a little about me. My name is Nigel Makin and I am a 49 year old married father of 2 sons and a daughter. I was born and continue to live on the island of Jersey, a small but very picturesque island in the English Channel. I started my working life as a 16 year old in the photographic industry where I progressed to a wedding, commercial and studio photographer before concentrating fully on the retail side of the industry. So why the interest in Gemstones and Jewelry?...Well early in my photographic career I was entrusted with the task of photographing the jewelry collection of a very well known local millionaire for insurance purposes. The collection was so huge it took me weeks and weeks to see the task through to the end. What I witnessed through this superb collection of Jewelry that you had to see to believe was enough to make me spend the next 25 years of my life, studying and learning everything I could about Gemstones. I also have struck a friendship with some local jewelers that have helped me in no small way in my quest for knowledge of natural Gemstones and fine Jewelry. So why the theme of Arizona's Painted Desert?...This may come over as a little strange but it all stems from a family vacation to America's west coast in 1997.We had taken a self driving tour around both rims of the Grand Canyon and had a marvelous time. When saying goodbye to the canyon we stumbled upon the Painted Desert by complete accident I may add, as back then I did not even know that it existed. The beauty of this barren land made a bigger impression with us than the Grand Canyon and the link between quartz Gemstones entombed in petrified wood seemed a natural step for me to make this web site. I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this and also for visiting my site. Nigel Makin Painted Desert Jewels
