So Whats so Special About Quartz Watches?
The first Quartz Watches were manufactured by Seiko in the late sixties the then pioneering technology being rather expensive, a far cry from the few dollars you can pick one up for these days.
In the seventies LED display was very popular but these soon disappeared from the shops as you had to press a button on the side of the watch to display the time in red digits on a black face, and the batteries drained far too fast.
Why do you need batteries in a watch I hear you say?...well the batteries are needed for use with the Quartz, the same crystal that is found in
Petrified Wood
I talked about earlier.
The distinct advantage is simple they are far more accurate timekeepers than mechanical ones, and you do not have to wind them up.

How It Works... when an electric current is applied to a Quartz crystal it vibrates at a very steady frequency you get a certain amount of vibrations per second.
The Quartz crystal is cut into a shape like a tuning fork with the vibrations being amplified by electronic circuitry and passed on as one second pulses to a tiny motor that move the hands of the watch.
There is very little to go wrong with this type of watch replacing the battery every now and then being the most drastic repair you are likely to need and these can last years.
The accuracy of these watches are such that only one second of time daily is lost or gained if at all.
Whether it is a cheaper model you want, or a designer made quality timepiece you can be assured that thanks to Quartz you will have a nice looking reliable watch.
